Hello everyone out there reading this. Thank you for following me on my journey. Today was the first day of student teaching. Which is also the first day of my last semester as an undergrad....man, that sounds so wonderful!
So Elena and I are teaching at the same school in Belmopan, Cayo, Belize. The name of our school is Our Lady Guadalupe Primary School. They have students from the age of five all the way up to twelve. I have Standard III which is equivalent to 4th or 5th grade. There are 28 students in my class; 14 girls and 14 boys. The students are so sweet and I also love my collaborating teacher.
The school is a twenty minute walk from our house :-( Kedi and Jenna's school is practically in our backyard, so this was a downside, but.... Today I asked my CT if she knew a place I could buy a bike? She said, "I have a beach cruiser you can borrow while you're here, and my daughter has one that your friend can borrow, I'll just have to ask her first. I was so thrilled!! We had asked someone else and they said that bikes are around $200-$250 Belizian dollars (which is $100-$125 US). So this saved me a lot of money and it'll save me lots of time. My CT came by my house tonight to drop off the bikes, well eh my bike. So, she said that her daughter wasn't too keen on the idea of lending her bike. So Elena is SOL for the time being. My CT said she'll try to convince her daughter to give it up, but we'll see. So for now, I'm the only one in the house with a bike. I'm pretty stoked!!
The town is small but very spread out. There are only 2 restaurants close enough to walk to that don't close before 5PM. One is a Chinese Restaurant and the other is an ice cream shop, but they also have wings, burgers, burritos, and fries. Hopefully tomorrow we';; check out the pizza place....they deliver :-)
I plan on taking a lot more pics. I will take some pics of my school and my classroom tomorrow so you can see everything. That is all for now, I'm going to try and watch my shows and then head off to bed. Hopefully the million dogs and the geckos won't keep me up again, lol.
Goodnight from Belize :-)

Hey Raleigh,so cool to hear about your new adventure. So downgrading to a bike won't be as bad as you think, after all fender benders on a bike are a lot cheaper, lol, Nancy,my boys and I wish you the best and yes welcome to the world of Coca Cola"Light"... God bless you girl!Iggy.
ReplyDeleteSo excited about your adventure Raleigh. Thanks for sending me your blog. Have fun.
ReplyDeletethis is such a unique experience for you. congrats and i hope you enjoy your time there. one of the managers that work at my store grew up in belize. ill ask him for some tips for your time there.
ReplyDeleteRaleigh, I'm trying again to write you a message on your fantastic blog; let's hope 3rd time's a charm! I can't believe you are really there, and I know you are so excited to have finally started your grand adventure! It sounds like you have gotten off to a marvelous start, and I am so pleased to be able to read all about your times there. One tip for Elena, maybe she could offer your CT's daughter a small rental fee ( $10-15 per month) for the bike while she's using it, at least it's worth a try. Keep those blogs coming, sweet girl! I love you, Mama
ReplyDeleteHey Chica, I'm glad your enjoying yourself over there. Like your Mom said I can't believe your already in Belize.
