The end of week one

So, I survived my first week in Belize!  It definitely had it's ups and downs, but more ups :-)  We are getting used to the ins and outs of daily life here.  I picked up a sim card at BTL(Belize Telemedia Limited) so now I have a phone.  It's 33 cents a minute during off peak time.  I also learned where the market is, and they have lots of different types of food and miscellaneous items.  I bought 5 tangerines for $1 Belize, which is 50 cents in US.  Not too shabby.  I also purchased some plastic bowls, because our house only had one bowl.  The market is about a 20 minute walk from the house, but I prefer to ride my bike which takes about 5-8 minutes :-)

There is definitely no sense of urgency here.  Any restaurant you go to, your food takes forever to come out, like 45 mins or more.  They also do not bring your drinks before you eat, which is strange, but it kind of makes sense because there are no refills.  I tried fresh watermelon juice the other day and it was super tasty.

I am going to teach my first lesson on Monday about irregular verbs, so I'll let you know how that goes.  It's 12:30AM here now and I'm pretty tired. So, goodnight from Belize :-)

  1. It looks like you're having fun over there. I hope you have fun teaching your lesson tomorrow. These pictures look great and would be awesome to put in your portfolio when interviewing with principals! Have Fun!!!
